WHALESHARKS IN NABIRE
SWIM WITH THE GENTLE GIANTS
In the quiet waters of Cenderawasih Bay, something magical happens.
Each morning, as local fishermen lower their nets, whale sharks—some up to 18 meters long—gather near their boats, drawn by a tradition that’s existed for decades.
These gentle giants are wild, free, and completely unafraid of people. Unlike commercial tours or feeding shows, this is a real, respectful encounter—no tanks, no tricks. Just you, a mask, and the biggest fish on Earth.
This is one of the most reliable whale shark sites in the world. Sightings are possible year-round, with a 95%+ success rate.
Just the open ocean—and an unforgettable moment.

CHALLENGES
This is a short and accessible experience, but a few conditions are worth keeping in mind.
Participants should feel confident swimming in open, very deep water, even though the bay is usually calm.
Encounters with whale sharks are highly likely but not guaranteed. We work with experienced local fishermen who know the best times and places, but nature follows its own rhythm.
Extensions possible—ask us about beach stays, island add-ons, or combo tours.
