MISOOL
ISLAND & JUNGLE COMBO

TWO WORLDS - ONE TRIP

Before we get into the details, here’s a brief overview about this combo trip in Misool:

This journey unites two worlds: the untouched coral reefs and islands of eastern Misool and the traditions of the indigenous Matbat people in Batanmes primary jungle.

Over the course of this adventure, you’ll snorkel in some of the world’s most biodiverse reefs, sleep under the stars on a remote island,  explore jellyfish lakes and prehistoric rock art. Then, you’ll journey inland—leaving the sea behind to live with the Matbat, learning their traditional ways in a jungle environment.

Each day brings a new setting: reef, river, rainforest, rocky islands, beaches or mangroves. Every experience connects you to the land, the water, and the people who call this place home.

You’ll prepare meals over open fire, learn how to harvest Sago, discover edible and medicinal jungle plants and observe rare birds at dawn. Culture and nature merge into a raw, unforgettable experience.

NOTE: This is a combination trip  with the  Misool Island Dream adventure.  If you want to book just one of both trips separately please do not hesitate to contact us via our contact form.

TRIP OVERVIEW

THE PLAN

We begin in Sorong and head to the island of Canpade, our base in paradise, immersed by coral reefs, white sand beach, primary jungle and limestone cliffs.

Over several days, we explore Misool by boat—snorkeling vibrant reefs, swimming in jellyfish lakes,  visiting sacred caves and much more. Each day offers a mix of adventure and quiet moments in untouched nature.

In the second part of the journey, we travel inland to the Matbat village of Magey and continue upriver into the rainforest. Here we learn from the Matbat people how to make sago, forage jungle food, fish with traditional methods. We experience the indigenous culture and the vast jungle in an authentic and interactive way —bringing home unforgettable memories of island beauty, ancient knowledge and jungle life.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Real off-grid experience at the island Canpade with several housereefs, cliff view, white sand beach and primary jungle on spot.

  • Food made by a real chef, traditional local, western and Indian food with vegan options.

  • visit Misools 2 most diverse ecosystems while enjoying an authentic experience with the indigenous Matbat people.

  • Learn traditional bushcraft from the Matbat.

  • Misools most complete itinerary means plenty of exploration at our secret spots and best chances to dive deep into Misools biodiverse underwater.

CHALLENGES

On Canpade Island, we camp close to nature with limited comfort—showers are basic, nights can be hot, and boat rides may get wet or bumpy.

In the jungle, we sleep in tents, and live without phone signal or electricity. The trip includes several steep and demanding hikes (up to 4.5 hours); prior snorkeling and hiking experience is recommended.

Mosquitoes and sand flies are common, though Malaria and Dengue are not a concern.  Weather conditions can change quickly, including strong winds and heavy rain.

The ferry ride to Misool is long and can be unreliable at times.

You don’t need to be an athlete, but a good level of fitness and openness to the unexpected will help you enjoy the journey. It’s not always easy—but it’s real, and that’s what makes it special.
